Part of building at 9 Nemanjina St collapses, five workers injured

The Serbian joint affairs directorate said today that part of the building at 9 Nemanjina Street collapsed this morning around 10:20. The building was damaged during the 1999 bombing, and is being cleared up.
The walls collapsed when supporting pillars, which were the most damaged by missiles in the bombing, gave way.
A couple of minutes after the incident ambulance and fire brigade units arrived at the scene, and by 10:50 the building was evacuated.
There were 33 workers in the building, five of whom were injured and are now in the Emergency Centre. Their names are Perica Stuba, Radovan Orlovic, Radisav Maric, Goran Trbojevic and Perica Jovanovic.
The firms ‘Balkan gradnja’, ‘Rad’ and ‘Ratko Mitrovic-niskogradnja’, as joint bidders won the tender for the cleanup of the building and are the current contractors on-site.
Last year, before works started, professional teams had ascertained that there were no unexploded mines or radiation in the building at 9 Nemanjina Street, the statement concludes.
