Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica met today with US Deputy Assistant Secretary in the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, and said that the beginning of negotiations on the Stabilisation and Association Agreement with the EU (SAA) is at this moment the top priority of the state union of Serbia-Montenegro.
Kostunica pointed to the difficult position of Serbs and other non-Albanians in Kosovo-Metohija, who are deprived of basic human rights, and he stressed the importance of a full implementation of standards in Kosovo-Metohija.
Rosemary DiCarlo said that the United States will insist on a full implementation of standards in Kosovo-Metohija and expressed hope that the state union of Serbia-Montenegro will soon begin the negotiations on the SAA.
Kostunica and Rosemary DiCarlo both agreed that progress has been made in cooperation with the Hague tribunal and that it is necessary to complete this cooperation and close the Hague tribunal chapter.
The two officials concluded that good bilateral relations of the two countries are of great importance.
