According to the statement, CERN is one the world’s largest scientific institutions, and plays a leading role in particle physics. It is also one of the world’s top institutes for the development of state-of-the-art technologies used in the fields of microelectronics, superconductivity, and information technology.
Serbian scientists are primarily involved in research projects within large international collaborations and their work is linked to fundamental research in particle physics.
During the visit to CERN, Popovic met with Jos Engelen, deputy director general for science, to discuss forms of further engagement of Serbian scientists in CERN projects.
Also as part of the visit, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Serbian Ministry of Science and Environmental Protection and CERN on conducting CMS and ATLAS experiments, reads the statement.
