Serbia and Montenegro should put aside separation ideas

Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica told the Tanjug news agency today that the best thing for Serbia-Montenegro ahead of negotiations on stabilisation and association with the EU is to put aside any ideas of separation and divisions.

“Our most important shared objective, for Serbia-Montenegro to become an integral part of the EU as soon as possible, is now ahead of us,” said Kostunica and added that “there is no doubt that we can achieve that goal easier and faster if we are together.”
Pointing out that the EU’s message in this respect is more than clear – that the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro is the right partner for European integration, Kostunica warned that it would be “very bad if we should pass up the opportunity that is being given to Serbia-Montenegro and to waste time on internal divisions at the time when all Europe is uniting.”
“If Europe is truly our common goal, and I believe it is, then the choice is utterly easy. Let’s turn to European integration together, and the success of the state union is guaranteed,” said Kostunica.
Kostunica reiterated that Serbia is aware of its responsibility in achieving that goal and added that it strongly supports the state union and its fast integration in the EU.
