Including North Macedonia, Greece in fast-track project

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic spoke today with the delegation of Hungary, led by Minister of Innovation and Technological Development Laszlo Palkovics, on a project to build a fast track between Belgrade and Budapest.

Mihajlovic stressed at the meeting held at the Eighth Meeting of the Trilateral Working Group of Serbia, Hungary and the People's Republic of China for the reconstruction and modernisation project of the Belgrade-Budapest railway, that this railway line is part of an important regional corridor connecting central and southern Europe and that it would therefore need to include other countries in this corridor – North Macedonia and Greece.

Serbia is making good progress in the implementation of the project, and works are being carried out on two sections from Belgrade to Novi Sad, and we also signed commercial contracts for the section Novi Sad – Subotica, for which we are preparing for the commencement of works, Mihajlovic said.

The officials also discussed possibilities for solving problems related to long stay at border crossings, through the simplification of border procedures and the expansion of border crossings.

The two delegations also discussed cooperation in other infrastructure projects in road and water transport, including the construction of the Ipsilon branch, the bypass around Subotica and the construction of a shipwreck on Tisa, according to a statement by the Cabinet of the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure.
