Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Nebojsa Stefanovic expressed today during a telephone conversation with Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Matteo Salvini the readiness of the Serbian police to improve cooperation with their Italian colleagues, especially in the field of irregular migration.

Stefanovic assessed that only joint and coordinated activities in this area, with particular emphasis on combating human trafficking, smuggling of people and forging documents, can give results in this fight.
Serbia is ready, as it has been until now, to be part of Europe's common and unique response to the migrant crisis and it believes that cooperation with Italy is one of the priorities in solving this crisis, he said.
Salvini recalled that for several years now Italy has been burdened by the increased influx of migrants from North Africa and that for this reason the Italian authorities are very committed to solving this problem.
Italy, as he pointed out, is ready to improve the quality of cooperation with all relevant partners in this fight, especially with Serbia, since it is a transit country on the so-called Balkan route.
