First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic spoke today with Special Representative of the British Prime Minister on Preventing Sexual Violence in Conflict The Lord Ahmad of Wimbledon.
At the meeting held in preparation for the second Global Summit on the Prevention of Sexual Violence in Conflict, Dacic highlighted the support of Serbia for the advocacy of the United Kingdom in the area of prevention of sexual violence in armed conflicts.
He informed his interlocutor of the measures taken in the implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 "Women, Peace and Security", as well as in the field of individualizing criminal responsibility within the judicial system of Serbia.
The First Deputy Prime Minister said that everything needs to be done to provide protection, support and assistance to all victims of this terrible crime, but also prevent abuse, manipulation of victims and politicization.
The interlocutors agreed that preventing the stigmatization of victims and the adequate punishment of perpetrators of these crimes is an important element in the achievement of justice.
Dacic also said that further improvement of relations and overall cooperation with the United Kingdom is a priority and interest of Serbia.
The two officials noted the need to intensify contacts at the highest level in the coming period, and they also pointed out the necessity of improving strategic dialogue and cooperation in the economic field.
Lord Ahmad stressed that even after Brexit the United Kingdom will remain a reliable partner of Serbia both on a bilateral level and in the face of global challenges such as security and climate change.
