First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York on the margins of the UN Security Council's debate on the UNMIK Work Report.
Guterres expressed concern over the situation in Kosovo after a recent operation of Kosovo police forces in the north of Kosovo and an incident in which UNMIK members were arrested.
He underlined that UNMIK works in complex circumstances and is continuously exposed to provocations, the aim of which is cause the abolishment of the mission in Kosovo.
Dacic stressed that Serbia remains committed to negotiating and reaching a solution peacefully.
He pointed out that the Serb population in Kosovo is constantly exposed to provocations and intimidation, and that in that sense, in his statement before the UN Security Council, he warned of the possibility of new incidents in the north of the province, and called on the Security Council to take this warning seriously and take measures to avert a further escalation of tensions.
On the eve of yesterday's meeting, Dacic held a bilateral meeting with the Permanent Representative of Kuwait and the Chairman of the Security Council for June Mansour Al-Otaibi.
The Serbian Foreign Minister confirmed during the talks that Serbia remains committed to resolving the issue of Kosovo-Metohija through dialogue and compromise.
