Government makes natural disaster declaration

The Serbian government adopted today the Bill on community policing that will enable municipalities to take over and realise, in association with the police, their own part of the responsibility for the communal order in the municipality and for safe and ordered environment of citizens.

With this bill, the community police would get several new competencies in order to increase their responsibility for communal order in municipalities.

Due to the heavy rainfalls, hail and the outflow of torrential and other waters this month, which caused great material damage in some municipalities, the government made a decision to declare a natural disaster.

This decision represents the first step in activating the state to define the exact number of municipalities affected and the flood damage caused, in order to restore infrastructure, private and public facilities.

The Serbian government has approved the hiring of the top 100 graduates of the Faculty of Medicine and 400 best graduates of the secondary medical schools in health care institutions in Serbia in order to give an opportunity to young graduates to work and develop professionally in their own country.

The Bill on science and research was adopted that will provide institutional financing of science, empowerment of the institutes of national importance, mechanism for founding new institutions, as well as more efficient monitoring and evaluation of the work of institutes.

The ultimate goal of the law is to improve the quality of scientific research work and the application of its results, and hence the further development of an innovative knowledge-based society.

At its previous session, the government made a decision on the establishment of the Kragujevac Information Technology Institute within the University of Kragujevac.

The government also adopted the Bill on the confirmation of the Agreement between the government of the Republic of Serbia and the government of Montenegro on the mutual recognition of qualified trust services provided in the Republic of Serbia and certification services for electronic transactions provided in Montenegro.
