Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica and Indian Minister of State for External Affairs Rao Inderjit Singh agreed in a meeting today that the relationship between Serbia-Montenegro and India, which have had a long-standing friendship, is very good and that there are opportunities to improve economic cooperation between the two countries.

Kostunica said that the interest of foreign investors in Serbia-Montenegro has grown after the country got a positive feasibility study on EU accession and that Serbia has passed a number of government-proposed bills to create a safe legal environment for investment. He added that Serbia is also stepping up activities in harmonising domestic laws with EU regulations.
Singh said that large Indian companies are very interested in taking part in the privatisation of Serbian firms, especially in the manufacture of cars, trucks, and tractors.
Speaking about the situation in Kosovo-Metohija, Kostunica stressed the importance of full abidance by the UN Security Council Resolution 1244 and he added that problems should be resolved through dialogue and compromise, preserving Serbia-Montenegro’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Singh said that India stands for full abidance of Resolution 1244 and he recalled that more than 300 of India’s troops are part of the UN Mission in Kosovo-Metohija.
The meeting between Kostunica and Singh was also attended by Serbian Minster of Economy Predrag Bubalo.
