Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica pointed out today in his meeting with Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Adam Daniel Rotfeld that the Kosovo-Metohija solution should be solved through dialogue and compromise, in the form of an extended autonomy, respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state union of Serbia and Montenegro.
Kostunica stressed that the fulfilling of standards in Kosovo-Metohija must be considered and recalled that the Serbs living in the southern province are not safe and do not have freedom of movement.
Rotfeld agreed that standards must be fulfilled in the southern province and that basic human rights must be respected, and stated that the solution, which must be acceptable for both sides, must be solved through dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina.
Kostunica said during the meeting that the Serbian government is strongly committed to European integrations and recalled that the National Strategy for EU Accession has been passed and added that the negotiations on the stabilisation and association agreement with the EU ought to begin in the fall.
Rotfeld pointed out that Serbia-Montenegro is an important stability factor in the region and in Europe and said that the country’s position is in the European family.
Kostunica stressed during the meeting that the foreign investment conditions in the Serbian industry have significantly improved and stated that the recent decision of the US to give Serbia-Montenegro the generalised system of preferences will contribute to the strengthening of the domestic economy.
The Serbian Prime Minister and the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs agreed that the economic co-operation of the two countries has improved and that there are possibilities for further improvement.
