The meeting focused on solving open issues, with both parties expressing mutual readiness to overcome them.
As a good example and a guideline in problem solving, Kostunica recalled the “Sarajevo Declaration” and pointed out that problems should be solved by joint efforts and through institutions.
He said that the open issues between the two countries are return of displaced persons, property issues, restoration of ruined houses and return of expropriated property, as well as the issue of missing persons.
Mesic expressed preparedness for solving the issues, especially concerning expropriated property and added that neither individuals nor organisations have the right to seize property belonging to someone else. He added that Croatia is also striving to come up with a solution for the transfer of Serbian citizens indicted by Croatian courts.
