The government adopted the Bill on amendments to the Law on the Enforcement of Criminal Sanctions at today's session.
Although the legal framework for the enforcement of criminal sanctions is largely in line with European standards, in the meantime there has been a need to harmonise the activities prescribed by the Action Plan for Chapter 23.
Amendments to the Law extend to the competencies of judges for the enforcement of criminal sanctions and are adapted to the needs of our legal system.
Also, new, alternative measures that change the way of enforcement of imprisonment are prescribed.
The new measures stipulate that the sentence of imprisonment up to one year is executed in the premises where the convicted person lives (house prison), and that the convicts serving their sentence in the semi-opened or open department of the institution can be sent to work outside these institutions.
Their working engagement will contribute to easier and more efficient engagement in society after serving a prison sentence.
The amendment of the law provides for early release when further execution of the sentence is considered inhuman - in case of serious illness, disability or age.
