Kostunica pointed to the importance of exceptionally good overall relations of the two countries and expressed satisfaction with economic ties and foreign trade.
Galano assessed that the Serbian government has achieved very important results both politically and economically and said that the Veneto Region sees Serbia as a partner in improving cooperation in various areas.
There are opportunities for improving cooperation in the textile industry, leather and shoe manufacture, metal and wood works, and agriculture.
Kostunica emphasised that Italy has always been well informed of the situation in the Balkan region and added that this was confirmed during the recent visit to that country, when the Italian president and prime minister agreed that all further fragmentation would lead to instability in the region.
The Serbian Prime Minister repeated that the resolving of the problem in Kosovo-Metohija must be sought through a compromise and with the respect of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the State Union of Serbia-Montenegro.
The significance of the US decision to award Serbia-Montenegro the status of favoured trading partner was underlined, which will positively affect the economy.
Galano said that Italian business people are very interested in investing in Serbia. He announced the visit of a large number of business people from the Veneto Region to the event entitled “Italy in Belgrade” in October. The president of the Veneto Region emphasised that it would be good if a similar gathering, for presenting investment opportunities in Serbia, would be organised in Venice.
The meeting was also attended by Serbian Minister of Economy Predrag Bubalo.
