Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica received today Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organisation Francesco Frangialli and emphasised that it is necessary to develop infrastructure, above all Corridor 10, and to build a highway to the Montenegrin coast in order to increase the scale of the tourist offer.
Kostunica pointed out that conditions for the development of tourism in Serbia are much better, especially rural, spa and mountain tourism. He reminded that Serbia-Montenegro has geographic advantages, as it is both a Mediterranean and central European country.
The Prime Minister said that Belgrade has recently shown that it can be a good host during the annual meeting of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, noting that it will soon be host to the European Basketball Championship.
Frangialli said that Serbia has made progress in the area of tourism and mentioned its advantages, including ecological and rural tourism. He said that considering Serbia-Montenegro’s reputation in the world of sport, it should promote sport tourism as well.
The meeting between Kostunica and Frangialli was also attended by Minister of Trade, Tourism and Services Bojan Dimitrijevic and Regional Representative of the World Tourism Organisation for Europe Luigi Cabrini. Belgrade is currently the host of a two-day conference of this organisation entitled: “Tourism: a Tool for Sustainable Development in Transitional Economies”, which began today and will be attended by representatives of 25 countries, tourist organisations and UN and EU agencies.
