Trade blockade of Pristina returns entire region to past

Deputy Prime Minister Zorana Mihajlovic today assessed that the trade blockade carried out by Pristina cannot change the position of Serbia, but threatens to return the entire region to the past.

In a statement to the public, Mihajlovic said that if Kosovo Albanians want good relations with Serbs and a stable region, then Pristina must immediately cancel the blockade that threatens to turn into a humanitarian crisis.

We can make a better future for citizens only if we have peace, stability and conditions for a normal life and economic progress throughout the region. Yet, this cannot be done by preventing the medical treatment and supply of food and introducing trade barriers that do not exist anywhere in Europe, Mihajlovic said.

She added that the unilateral moves of Pristina deny all efforts to establish better relations in the region, although it is clear that the application of economic or any other forms of violence cannot push the two sides forward, but can only bring the whole region back to the past.

From the beginning, Pristina should have known that Serbia would not change its position regarding Kosovo under the pressure of economic blockade. It is therefore important that the tax on Serbian goods be abolished as soon as possible, enabling citizens not to suffer and the dialogue on the future of Kosovo to continue, concluded Mihajlovic.
