Serbia to use Luxembourg’s experiences in building state data centre

Belgrade/Luxembourg, 29 October 2018

Director of the Office for IT and eGovernment Mihailo Jovanovic and member of the City Council of Kragujevac Danilo Savic, who is in charge of ICT, eGovernment and "Smart City", are on an official visit to Luxembourg where they met with Gilles Feith, Director of Luxembourg's Government IT Centre, with whom they discussed the project of eEmbassies and other eGovernment projects, with the aim of better preparation for the construction of a secondary State Data Centre in Kragujevac. The Serbian delegation had a meeting with representatives of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of Luxembourg.

The Data Centre in Luxembourg, which is used for the needs of this country, but also for the needs of other companies, even other governments, as is the case with the government of Estonia, is a good example for the Office of IT and eGovernment to follow when building a secondary State Data Centre in Kragujevac. Our future Data Centre will be prestigious in Southeast Europe in terms of capacity, technical and security standards. We also expect a great interest of renowned global investors and global IT companies in using the capacity of our Data Centre and therefore the realisation of serious IT industry investments", Jovanovic pointed out.

On 26 October 2018, at the 20th regular session in the field of urban planning, the members of the Assembly of the City of Kragujevac adopted the Detailed Regulation Plan "Small Grains Research Institute – Working Zone FENIX", on whose parcel of land the secondary State Data Centre will be built. We are situated in a geographical centre of Serbia and on a different tectonic plate than Belgrade, which makes Kragujevac ideal for storing copies of the state administration and local self-government data", said Danilo Savic, member of the City Council of Kragujevac.

For this investment of special importance, the state - having global standards in mind - requested from us a location that meets strict security and technical standards criteria. The city administration has shown great willingness to respond efficiently to the demands of the state and prepare appropriate planning documents in record time. The city of Kragujevac and its citizens can be proud that the IT facility of national importance will be located right in the heart of Sumadija, Jovanovic added.
