Emir Kusturica, Diego Armando Maradona and Vojislav Kostunica
Kostunica said that he was very honoured to meet with two great artists - Maradona, who made art of football and Kusturica, one of the most distinguished film directors today. Kostunica greeted the football giant from Argentina and pointed out that his arrival to Serbia after more than twenty years is a great honour for all lovers of the sport.
Emir Kusturica briefed the Prime Minister about a film he is making about Diego Armando Maradona. Several scenes will be shot in Belgrade at football club Red Star’s stadium, where Maradona, at the time playing for Barcelona, scored one of his most beautiful goals in his lengthy and storied career. Kusturica thanked Kostunica for the interest the Serbian government is showing in this project.
Maradona said that he was very pleased that one of the world’s best directors is making a film about him, and that he had an opportunity to visit Belgrade after so many years, expressing gratitude for the cordial welcome that the city has given him.
At the close of the meeting, Kostunica wished this unique film production success and the Prime Minister and the football legend traded jerseys, Maradona receiving a Serbia-Montenegrin national team uniform emblazoned with Kusturica’s name and the number 10 and Kostunica receiving a replica of the Argentinean national jersey that Maradona wore while defending the colours of his national team.
