Kostunica recalled that after having obtained the positive feasibility study, Serbia-Montenegro is now to take part in negotiations on the stabilisation and association agreement. He stressed the volume of activities that awaits the Serbian government when it comes to preparing all legal drafts and bringing them into accord with European judiciary.
The Prime Minister also recalled the problems in Kosovo-Metohija, and pointed out that conditions for the return of displaced persons have not yet been fulfilled, that there is no freedom of movement, and that basic human rights are not being respected.
Kostunica said that Belgrade has sent an initiative to representatives of the Kosovo-Metohija provisional self-government inviting them to begin a dialogue. Stability in the region must be kept in sight while dealing with the problems, he added.
He pointed out that any fragmentation would affect stability in the region, adding that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia-Montenegro must be respected.
Kostunica said that the Serbian government is giving its full attention to the status of national minorities and endorses inter-ethnical trust.
Scheuer said that significant progress has been made when it comes to cooperating with the Hague tribunal and added that the report of the monitoring mission will focus on judicial activities, reforms in judiciary and police, as well as the status of national minorities.
Participants of the meeting expect that the text of Serbia’s new constitution will be harmonised and adopted in the shortest period possible.
