First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic stated in Strasbourg today that Serbia is firmly committed to the membership in the European Union, which is one of our foreign policy priorities.
At a ceremony in Strasbourg marking the 15th anniversary of accession of the Republic of Serbia to the Council of Europe, Dacic said that membership in this organisation brought about significant changes in Serbia.
Through the implementation of conventions, dialogue with expert bodies and the use of their expertise, as well as through numerous projects implemented in cooperation with this organisation, the level of protection of human rights has been significantly improved, democracy and the rule of law consolidated, and a fundamental institutional reform was carried out, Dacic stated.
He assessed that the citizens of Serbia have had, and continue to have, the greatest benefit from membership in the Council of Europe, through progress in reaching the standards of the organisation, but above all through access to the European Court of Human Rights.
Serbia is firmly committed to membership in the European Union, and this is one of our foreign policy priorities. On its European path, Serbia continues to implement reforms in the field of human rights, democracy and the rule of law, Dacic underlined.
