At a joint press conference with Botchwey, Dacic recalled that former Yugoslavia and Ghana were among the founders of the Non-Aligned Movement.
Relations were brilliant, Ghana was the first country in Africa to win its independence 60 years ago, he said, and announced that the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the former Yugoslavia, the present Serbia, and Ghana will be marked next year.
Dacic said that Serbia and Ghana want to revitalise their relations that were violated six years ago by a decision to recognise the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo.
Dacic pointed out that he is not only thinking about political relations, but also economic ones, and reminded that the trade exchange between the two countries during Yugoslavia amounted to $80 million annually, and last year it was at the level of only €10 million.
Dacic stressed that there is a huge potential for cooperation between the two countries, and reminded that Serbia decided in 2010 to open the Embassy in Ghana, but that due to the event regarding the recognition of the unilaterally proclaimed independence of Kosovo, this did not happen.
We do not want to exert pressure, this is their decision. We would like the decision made by the previous administration to be reconsidered, he stressed.
Botchwey said that Ghana would definitely reconsider the previously adopted decision to recognise the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo.
I know that the decision that was made was an obstacle to the development of our relations. But we are here, we did not go to Kosovo. No one from our government visited Kosovo, she said, and reminded that the decision on recognition of Kosovo was passed by the previous government.
Botchwey, who today signed a Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations with Dacic, especially praised the warm welcome, and said that Ghana wants to regain relations from before.
She also said that Ghana wants to have good relations with Serbia because she considers Serbia an ally, and besides that there are numerous areas for cooperation in favor of the citizens of the two countries.
The roadmap for the revitalisation of relations has been set up, Botchwey said, and expressed the belief that nothing would be able to prevent it.
