France’s no-vote will not influence Serbia’s accession to EU

The Serbian government’s EU Integration Office said that the French no-vote at yesterday’s referendum will not influence the process of Serbia’s accession to the EU.
The office expressed assurance that Serbia’s negotiations on a stabilisation and association agreement with the EU will start in October this year, as announced by EU Enlargement Commissioner Olli Rehn.
The failed referendum does not mean EU’s disintegration, the office said noting that this is not the first time that the Union is facing a crisis.
The EU will keep on functioning on the bases of the valid agreements with the EU and the agreement on the European community, in accordance with changes adopted in Nice in 2000, reads the statement.
