Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica received today Belgian Foreign Minister Karel Degucht and called on Belgium to support Belgrade's stance on the basic international principle of respect for the inviolability of internationally recognised borders leading to the preservation of sovereignty and territorial integrity of the state union of Serbia-Montenegro.
Kostunica said that the solution for Kosovo-Metohija must be searched for in dialogue and compromise, in the form of a wider autonomy for the province within the borders of Serbia-Montenegro.
The Prime Minister said that it is necessary to fulfil standards in Kosovo, first and foremost securing conditions for the return of Serbs and other non-Albanians who have been forcibly expelled, bearing in mind that the number of returnees is insignificant.
Kostunica said that the Serbian government is committed to European integration and added that the next step after obtaining a positive feasibility study is launching negotiations on the EU stabilisation and association agreement.
Degucht said that the Serbian government has achieved significant results in the process of European integration and fulfilment of its international obligations, such as the cooperation with the Hague tribunal.
Kostunica and Degucht agreed that relations of Serbia-Montenegro and Belgium are good and that it is necessary to further improve economic cooperation.
