The Serbian Ministry of International Economic Relations has said that the World Trade Organisation (WTO) General Council has accepted the nomination of Francois Roux, who is the Belgian Ambassador to the UN and WTO in Geneva, for the chairman of the working group on Serbia’s accession to the WTO.
The statement went on to say that Roux is a career diplomat who has previously represented Belgium at the UN and at the Council of Europe and it recalled that the WTO General Council established the working group on Serbia’s accession on February 15.
In March 2005, Serbia submitted the key document – the Memorandum on the Foreign Trade Regime and the appointment of the chairman of the working group has created all formal conditions for the launch of the process that will eventually lead to Serbia’s membership in the WTO, reads the statement, adding that the first meeting of the working group will be held this year.
