The emergency situation was declared in the municipalities of Prokuplje, Doljevac, Zitoradja, Zajecar, Negotin and Boljevac, but in the last 24 hours the situation has been stable and members of the Emergency Situations Department of the Ministry of the Interior have been on standby.
They will respond in a timely manner if there is a rise in the flow of torrential streams and rivers, which could cause possible floods.
An extraordinary flood defence operation is carried out on the basins of the rivers South Morava, Timok, Nisava, Jablanica and Toplica.
The Emergency Situations Department is engaged in delivering food and medicine to citizens, assisting emergency medical services, draining water from flood-affected facilities, and loading sand jacks in order to strengthen dikes and ramparts.
Since the beginning of snowfall to date, fire-fighters have evacuated 109 people, 29 from Doljevac, 75 from Prokuplje, while the five people who were evacuated from Cicevac were returned to their homes during the day, it was said at the session.
