Minister of Culture and Media Vladan Vukosavljevic spoke today with a delegation of the Council of Europe, led by Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muiznieks about the implementation of media laws, the safety of journalists and the development of a media strategy.
Vukosavljevic told Muiznieks and representatives of the Council of Europe that the line ministry is firmly committed to respecting high democratic principles, according to which there can be no healthy and developed society without free media.
During the talks, which took place in an atmosphere of appreciation and mutual understanding, the Minister informed the Commissioner about the current state of affairs on the media scene in Serbia.
The Minister informed Muiznieks with a principled stance that the Ministry, headed by him, firmly and decisively opposes all forms of endangering media freedom and the personal integrity of media representatives.
He also underlined that the Ministry severely condemned every attack on media representatives and an attempt to jeopardises their security, but noted that the Ministry has no authority to conduct investigative and other actions and that it is a matter for other state bodies, for which he also believes that they are investing great efforts to solve all such cases.
