Protest note to Barbados over recognition of Kosovo independence

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia sent a protest note today to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade of Barbados, stating that with astonishment, the news of the decision by Barbados to recognize the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo has been received with astonishment.
"Such an unreasonable and unexpected act comes at a time when many countries in the world, some of its close neighbours Barbados, are questioning and withdrawing decisions on the recognition of the so-called state of Kosovo.
It certainly will not contribute to the achievement of the final solution acceptable to both sides regarding the issue of Kosovo's status, which, according to the countries that were among the first to recognize Kosovo's independence, is still to be achieved.
The Republic of Serbia finds particularly offensive the fact that the decision on recognition was announced on the Statehood Day of the Republic of Serbia – 15 February.
This decision by a state that had unselfish support from Belgrade on its road to decolonization, with which it established diplomatic relations back in 1977, is considered a short-sighted decision by the current authorities, contrary to the principles of international law and attitudes expressed in recent bilateral contacts between representatives of the two governments, and its motives can only be guessed, " the protest note reads.
