The agreement on the realization and financing of the construction of a new FON building was signed by Minister of Education, Science and Technological Development Mladen Sarcevic, Minister without Portfolio in charge of Innovation and Technological Development Nenad Popovic, Director of the Public Investment Management Office Marko Blagojevic and Dean of the Faculty of Organizational Sciences Milija Suknovic.
The construction of the new facility, which will enable FON to enrol 750 new students each year instead of 430 is part of the activities of the Serbian government aimed at improving the scientific and innovation system of Serbia.
The Republic of Serbia has allocated €5 million for the construction of this facility from a loan of the European Investment Bank, and according to the contract, it is planned that the Faculty invests RSD 60 million from its own funds for equipping the building.
Brnabic expressed her gratitude to the EIB for partnership, pointing out that this bank, together with the government, invests in various segments of life in Serbia, and that at the moment there are currently seven infrastructure projects that are very important, not only financially, but also for young people in Serbia, which is a great potential.
She recalled that the project of construction of a new FON building is part of a wider concept within which a contract was signed for a new building of the Institute of Physics in Belgrade and a special building within the University of Belgrade for research and development, science, IT and digitization.
Also, she added, there are two projects - the Biosens Institute, which is the centre of digitization in agriculture for the whole of Europe, and the Science and Technology Park in Novi Sad.
The Prime Minister also referred to two projects in Nis, namely the construction of a laboratory lamella at the Faculty of Electronic Engineering and a science and technology park in Nis, which are very well advanced, since construction permits for both lamellas and parks have been completed.
When it comes to FON, Brnabic said that the first step has been completed which envisaged a joint investment of the government and the UNDP in the reconstruction of 1,100 square metres, thanks to which FON raised the quota for student enrolment and enrolled an additional 60 students.
After the signing, the attendees visited the renovated premises of this faculty, for which the government has allocated RSD 35 million for improvement and reconstruction works.
