Kostunica said that it is most important to fulfil standards in Kosovo, first and foremost to enable the return of expelled Serbs and other non-Albanians to their homes.
The Serbian Prime Minister pointed to the very difficult position of Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija and said that now it is crucial to establish dialogue, following the initiative of the Serbian government.
Kostunica highlighted that a solution to the problems in the province must be reached through compromise and respect for interests of both peoples. That solution must be just, which means that one side cannot get all and the other cannot lose all. That is why the solution must include a form of a wider autonomy for the province within the existing state borders, because any change of borders would affect regional stability, Kostunica said.
Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs welcomed Belgrade's initiative for establishing dialogue with Pristina and stressed that Spain endorses the preservation of the state union of Serbia-Montenegro and offers its full support on its path towards the EU. Spain advocates that negotiations on the agreement on stabilisation and association come as soon as possible, Moratinos said.
Kostunica and Moratinos said that relations between Serbia-Montenegro and Spain are very good and voiced readiness to intensify economic cooperation.
