Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica underscored today during talks with a delegation from the Gostun village near Prijepolje that the residents displayed exceptional courage, dedication and humanity in saving 38 Bulgarian school children from the Lim River, after the accident which occurred on April 4, 2004, when a bus with schoolchildren and teachers from the Nikolaj Katranov school from the Bulgarian town of Svistovo crashed into the river.
Gostun residents said that they received recognition and were decorated in Serbia-Montenegro and in Bulgaria by President Georgi Prvanov.
The delegation included Zuhdija and Zajim Ahmetovic, Izudin Pusija, Safet Balicevac and Esad Kostreba, who stated that during their stay in Bulgaria they were warmly received and awarded honorary citizenship, thus contributing to the friendship between the two countries.
The Serbian government awarded 50,000 dinars for courage and humanity to the rescuers of the children after
the traffic accident on the Bijelo Polje-Prijepolje road.
