Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica received today a delegation of the Independent Democratic Serb Party, from Croatia, headed by party president Vojislav Stanimirovic. Kostunica underlined that the Serbian government was committed to promoting good relations with Croatia and resolving all open issues.
Kostunica underlined that this was in the interest of the state union of Serbia-Montenegro, Croatia and the entire region, and that after the visit of Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader to Belgrade, a return visit to Zagreb would be made.
The Serbian Prime Minister assessed that both countries were willing to advance relations and that the remaining open issues included the return and status of refugees, secret indictments, resolution of the tenants' right of tenure and the issue of the transfer of prisoners from the Lepoglava prison.
Stanimirovic pointed out that one of the most important open issues was that of the tenants' right of tenure, as there are not enough requests for the return of apartments that were either seized or destroyed. He added that a certain number of filed requests were turned down without explanation in some towns.
The president of the Independent Democratic Serb Party assessed that the Agreement on the Protection of National Minorities signed by Serbia-Montenegro and Croatia largely contributes to improving the position of the Serb community in Croatia.
The Independent Democratic Serb Party delegation also included party vice-presidents Mile Horvat and Jovan Ajdukovic.
