The crisis response committee in Zrenjanin has stated that the level of the Tamis River is still rising, recording a six centimetre increase since yesterday, and that more runoff is expected from Romania, which would increase the level of water another ten centimetres.
Director of Zrenjanin health centre Mirko Bacic said that the epidemiological situation is unsafe and warned that health centres must take steps to prevent an outbreak, but he also noted that there have not been any cases of disease yet.
According to him, it is necessary to provide protection to people who work on removal of dead animals.
The crisis response committee is warning that the source of the disease danger is coming from a pig farm in Romania and travelling down the Tamis River.
Central Banat district head Zoran Vucic said that at this moment the endangered area needs cisterns and specialised vehicles for dead animals.
