Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica held a meeting today with Minister for Capital Investment Velimir Ilic, who is also president of the Natural Disasters Commission, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Ivana Dulic-Markovic and Minister of Energy and Mining Radomir Naumov about floods in the Secanj municipality. They agreed on specific measures for repairing the flood damage and determined the tasks of individual ministries.
At this morning’s session, the government’s Natural Disasters Commission, which is holding regular meetings on the situation, approved funds at the request of the Secanj municipality crisis centre amounting to 10 million dinars for delivering urgent aid and repairing flood damages.
President of the Natural Disasters Commission Velimir Ilic and Minister Radomir Naumov departed for the Secanj municipality where they met with district and municipality representatives and determined what additional measures and aid are necessary to repair the flood damage as swiftly as possible.
Director of the Water Directorate and representatives of the special service of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management have been on site for several days working with local authorities and undertaking measures to repair the damages.
After a damage assessment, the Serbian government will carry out the necessary repair measures, having already sent an urgent request for technical assistance in emergency situations to the UN Food and Agricultural Organisation (FAO). Ministry of Agriculture representatives are in constant contact with this international organisation, it was stated in the government’s announcement.
