Miroljub Labus
The talks related to ending the fifth revision as part of the current three-year arrangement and a $700 million debt write-off to the Paris Club of creditors, Labus told Tanjug news agency.
He announced that certain details relating to the fiscal and monetary policy will be discussed in early May. Labus said that he expects that the IMF’s Council will be in session in June, after which the next, second tranche of $200 million will be available.
Labus added that the delegation agreed to continue with structural and economic reforms in Serbia, to cut spending and to draw more attention to the payment balance.
The payment balance was the main theme of the five-day talks with IMF officials, he noted.
The Serbian delegation also met with IMF Deputy Managing Director Anne Krueger, Labus said and added that he will also meet with the outgoing president of the World Bank, James Wolfensohn.
The Serbian delegation had meetings with senior US officials, Labus said and noted that the relations between the two countries have improved significantly since Serbia started cooperating with the tribunal in The Hague fully and since it took a constructive approach related to the Kosovo status.
