The Serbian government declared April 20, 2005 the Day of Mourning for the tragic traffic accident that took place near Zabalj in the Zrenjanin municipality.

The accident occurred on April 15 on the Zrenjanin-Novi Sad main road, when a bus driving from Vrsac to Novi Sad crashed into a freight vehicle that was overtaking a tractor, broke the fence on the Zabaljski bridge and fell into the Tisa River.
Police believe that there were 23 passengers on the bus when the accident happened, of whom seven were rescued and three have been confirmed dead.
The search for remaining passengers and the operation extracting the bus from the river are underway.
