The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the Republic of Serbia welcomes the decision of the United States of America and Cuba to restore diplomatic relations after more than 54 years of interruption, as well as to reopen the embassies in Washington and Havana on 20 July this year.
We believe that this historic decision, stated in the letters that US President Barack Obama and President of Cuba Raul Castro exchanged on 1 July this year, is significant not only for the citizens of the two countries, but also globally, as a message that diplomatic dialogue and good faith between the countries and peoples remains the most important factor in international relations.
The Republic of Serbia welcomes this decision and hopes that this very important step in the relations between our friendly countries of the United States of America and Cuba will lead to a full normalisation of their bilateral relations and resolution of all outstanding issues, reads a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
