Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica met today with the political director at the UK Foreign Office John Sawers, who said that the UK believes that achievements of the Serbian government deserve a positive feasibility study and the launching of talks on an agreement on stabilisation and association with the European Union.
Sawers also congratulated the Serbian government on results achieved and added that they represent an important step in the process of European integration.
Kostunica stressed that the government has paid great attention to legislative work and he recalled that the bills that the government has sent to the parliament are in line with European standards.
He said that the government is committed to fulfilling its international obligations and that the model it has been applying in cooperation with the Hague tribunal has yielded results.
Kostunica and Sawers also discussed the situation in Kosovo-Metohija and the Prime Minister said that standards in the province must be accurately assessed.
Kostunica said that Kosovo-Metohija’s multiethnic character must be preserved and that a solution for the province must be a matter of compromise as any change of borders could endanger regional stability.
