Javier Solana and Vojislav Kostunica
Javier Solana expressed satisfaction because of the successful resolution to the problem of elections for the Serbia-Montenegrin parliament and the possible referendum in the member states, which can be overcome with appropriate amendments to the Constitutional Charter. He underlined that good and successful cooperation with the Hague tribunal has simplified the resolution of many other important issues.
Solana pointed out that a positive assessment of the Feasibility Study, which is expected shortly, also represents the true beginning of a successful European policy of Serbia. He also expressed his belief that the immanent arrival of Contact Group representatives to Belgrade would contribute to a comprehensive assessment of standards in Kosovo-Metohija as an important step in resolving this problem.
Kostunica pointed to Javier Solana’s personal contribution in resolving the obstacles in the functioning of the state union, and expressed his belief that all its institutions, especially the Serbia-Montenegrin parliament would continue to perform their constitutional obligations. Kostunica said that mutual cooperation with the Hague tribunal would continue on its successful path.
The Serbian Prime Minister reiterated the importance of a unified front of our state bodies in activities related to Kosovo-Metohija in the forthcoming period, and acquainted Javier Solana with the principles of a unified policy of our country in this area.
