Belgrade, 9 April 2015 –Minister of the Interior Nebojsa Stefanovic met today with advisor to the government of Serbia Franco Frattini to discuss the accession process of the Republic of Serbia into the European Union and in particular Chapter 24, which refers to justice, freedom and security.
Stefanovic said that the Ministry is ready to start negotiations with the European Union within the framework of Chapter 24, and will send the third draft of the Action Plan for this chapter to the European Commission.
Communication with European Commissioner for Migration, Home Affairs and Citizenship, Dimitris Avramopoulos has been intensified over the past month, Stefanovic said.
Frattini said that the commitment to the process of European integration and implementation of the acquis, irrespective of the political decision to formally initiate negotiations, is the right way.
Stefanovic and Frattini agreed that contacts with representatives of the European Commission should be enhanced in order to better present the results of the Ministry and the government of the Republic of Serbia.
