Gasic stressed that, ever since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1948, cooperation of the two countries has been based on traditionally good and friendly relations.
The Ambassador congratulated the Minister on measures taken so far in the reform of the defence system. He also commended the devotedness and professionalism of members of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia, which were best demonstrated at the Military Parade last year.
Mahmood particularly stressed the importance of cooperation and exchange of information in the field of battle against terrorism and other transnational threats.
The Minister of Defence stressed that all countries of the world must be united in battling terrorist threats and the Serbia will always insist on finding peaceful solutions. Bratislav Gasic also said that Serbia will devout itself to dialogue and mutual understanding in the global and regional initiative, adding that its chairing over OSCE is a great recognition for such politics.
Gasic and Mahmood agreed that for improvement of cooperation in the field of defence it is necessary to create legal framework, and that exchanging high-level visits is a good foundation for that.
The initiative for strengthening military cooperation between the two countries was started by the then Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vucic, upon whose call, in 2012, the Federal Minister of Defence of Pakistan visited Serbia.
Furthermore, during the meeting, the interlocutors agreed that there is great potential for improving cooperation in the field of defence, with main focus on military economic, military educational cooperation and the field of multinational operations, which will be discussed in more detail during Gasic’s visit to Pakistan in the future period.
