The statement said that despite the risks, Serbian diplomats have not left Syria, Iraq and Libya.
At the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia in Damascus there are chargé d'affaires and five local officials,who are Syrian citizens. The rest of the diplomatic staff was moved to Beirut in 2012, for security reasons.
Last week, the Serbian Embassy in Damascus received a threat with the logo of the terrorist organisation "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant", addressed to the local Syrian staff, which the Embassy immediately reported to the competent security services.
A similar message was sent to Syrian officials in all currently active diplomatic missions in Damascus, the statement said, adding that Serbia has taken and will continue to take all precautions to preserve the security of staff at its embassy in the capital of Syria.
