The Serbian National Minorities Council held its third session today chaired by Serbian Prime Minister Vojislav Kostunica. Discussed were issues of providing public information in the languages of national minorities, legal regulation of elections, competences of national councils, the creation of a research network, as well as research stations of national minorities.
Serbian, Vojvodina and local self-government bodies were advised to request the opinion of national councils of national minorities prior to discussing and deciding on issues important for minorities according to the Law on the Protection of Rights and Freedoms of National Minorities.
A decision was also adopted to form two expert teams whose task would be to propose solutions for improving access to information in languages of national minorities, legal regulation of elections and competences of national councils.
