The Serbian Ministry of Mining and Energy has said that the Serbian government’s delegation, headed by Assistant Minister of Mining and Energy Aleksandar Vlajcic, initialled the draft agreement on the regional energy community today in Brussels. The signatories are the EU and countries of Southeastern Europe, including Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia and Romania. Also participating in the project are Austria, Greece, Hungary, Italy and Slovenia.
In efforts to join European trends, increase energy efficiency and spread the market in order to attract necessary investment, Serbia concurred to the draft agreement on energy community at a ministerial conference in Athens in December 2004. As part of the agreement, the objectives of the 2002 and 2003 Athens memoranda of understanding would be carried out, the Ministry of Mining and Energy said in a statement.
The signing of the agreement is expected to take place in June.
