More active police involvement in searching for Hague fugitives

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic said today in Prokuplje that the Serbian police will get more actively involved in the search for indictees of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague, as agreed with the tribunal’s Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz.

Dacic explained that this has not been the case so far as this work was carried out by security services.
The police only performed tasks requested by the Prosecutor’s Office for War Crimes and practically did not take part in locating, but only in arresting the suspects and acting upon search warrants.
He confirmed that the number of policemen working at the service for uncovering war crimes has already been increased by 50%.
Many countries in Europe and the world know that Serbia is doing everything in its power to arrest the remaining indictees and thus complete successfully the cooperation with the ICTY, Dacic underlined.
He added that upon his latest visit to Belgrade, Brammertz gave a very positive opinion of the activities aimed at better cooperation of all services working on this task.
Dacic opened today in Prokuplje the exhibition “Second Infantry Regiment Prince Mihailo - Iron Regiment” at the National Museum “Toplice”.
