Djelic opens 6th Belgrade International Architecture Week

Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic opened the 6th Belgrade International Architecture Week (BINA) at the Belgrade Culture Centre last night, held under the slogan “Sustainable/Unsustainable.”

On this occasion, Djelic was presented with an “Architectural Event of the Year” award by the Belgrade Association of Architects for the realisation of a competition for the best design solution of the Centre for the Promotion of Science in New Belgrade.
Djelic said he is very pleased to have the honour to open this renowned international gathering, adding that last year, as a jury member for the competition, he had an opportunity to be in touch with a number of architects. He recalled that the architectural competition for the science centre was the first international construction project the Serbian government announced and to which 237 proposals were submitted from no less than 47 countries. This was the largest architectural competition in 2010 in the entire world and designs from Austria and Japan were declared winners, while the Serbian proposal was third-ranked, Djelic observed, adding that other design solutions from Serbia were also highly ranked and now have references at the international scene. President of the Belgrade Association of Architects Ivan Raskovic said that the “Architectural Event of the Year” award was established two years ago in order to recognise the efforts of responsible institutions and individuals helping to advance architecture. Jury said that eight events competed for the award this year, but the event of the year was beyond any doubt the Ministry’s competition for the Centre for the Promotion of Science.
