Serbia, Croatia to sign cross-border cooperation agreement soon

Deputy Prime Minister for European integration Bozidar Djelic announced in Vukovar today that during the next month, Serbia and Croatia will sign an agreement on cross-border cooperation.

Djelic, who is attending Vukovar Danube Summit at the invitation of Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor, told Tanjug news agency that the agreement is estimated at €4 million.
The Deputy Prime Minister voiced his expectation that a significant portion of the funds will be allocated for Danube-related projects, especially for the revival of Vukovar, where there are 40% of Serbian population there.
He noted that the Serbian delegation at the Summit presented projects that are already under way, most notably this year’s IPA projects worth €18.5 million.
These projects are aimed at reviving the Golubac Fort and the local infrastructure in Veliko Gradiste, which should enable Silver Lake to become a regional and European tourist attraction.
The Serbian Delegation informed its Danubian partners on the construction of three bridges on the Danube – a project we want to implement together, the construction of an inter-modal point, where in the vicinity of Belgrade, road and railway lines and a cargo centre will be linked to the Danube, thus creating a logistics centre that will attract investment, Djelic explained.
He noted that at Vukovar Danube Summit it was mentioned that the EU intends to pinpoint several priority projects next year, where already approved funds could be allocated.
We are all preparing to put forward important proposals that will enable considerable financial support to the Danube Strategy in the next EU financial cycle, after 2013, Djelic concluded.
