Cooperation of Serbia, Belgium in fight against illegal migration

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic and Belgian Foreign Minister Steven Vanackere discussed today the situation regarding the increased number of so-called false asylum seekers from Serbia in Belgium.

At the meeting Dacic presented the measures implemented by the Serbian Ministry of the Interior through the Serbian government’s Commission for monitoring the visa-free regime with the EU.
The two officials commended good cooperation and efforts made so far in the fight against illegal migration.
Vanackere pointed out that a few weeks ago Belgium changed its procedure for deciding on requests for asylum. The procedure is rapid, and therefore takes less time, and the financial support has been reduced.
He said that more than 98% of asylum requests of Serbian citizens have been rejected and that all of them must leave the territory of Belgium.
The Belgian delegation expressed satisfaction with the cooperation so far and both sides agreed to cooperate in the future even better, especially at the operational level.
