Danube Strategy very important for Serbia

Deputy Prime Minister Bozidar Djelic said today that with the adoption of the Danube Strategy, Serbia got a chance to compete in a number of projects which will significantly increase its capacity for attracting investment.
Djelic told Tanjug news agency said that Serbia, although not an EU member yet, has an important role in the implementation of the strategy that has been adopted today in Luxembourg at a session of the EU General Affairs Council, adding that Serbia has been assigned the role of the coordinator for transport and the economy of knowledge.
He specified that Serbia has already allocated €18.5 million from the EU pre-accession assistance for projects on the Danube, of which €6.5 million is intended for renovation of the Golubac fortress and €5 million for infrastructural projects in Veliko Gradiste. In a few weeks a public invitation will be published, which will be conducted by the Austrian and Portuguese aid agencies on behalf of the EU, the Deputy Prime Minister said and called on all local self-governments to apply with their projects for the remaining funds. He explained that this is only the beginning because in the period from 2014 to 2020 significant funds will be set aside in the EU budget for Danube projects.
