Serbia’s accession to DEA of immense importance

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dacic and a delegation from Serbia are participating in an International Conference for Combating Drugs IDCE XXVIII taking place in Cancun, Mexico.

Dacic, who is on an official visit to Mexico, said that at the beginning of the conference, Director of the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Michele Leonhart welcomed Serbia’s accession to this organisation.
He said that Serbia’s accession to the DEA is very important, and even more so bearing in mind Serbia’s results achieved in the fight against drug abuse over the past several years.
Dacic also noted that at a meeting with Director of the Mexican Federal Police Facundo Rosas they discussed the signing of a memorandum on cooperation between the Serbian and Mexican interior ministries and police forces.
The Serbian Ministry of the Interior has already signed similar agreements with Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay, he recalled.
Dacic will also meet with the DEA Director during the conference and the head of the Serbian Counter-Organized Crime Service (SBPOK) will hold a presentation.
The international conference is held for the 28th time, organised by the DEA.
At the invitation by DEA Director Michele Leonhart, Serbia became member of the DEA, which gathers 91 countries.
