Markovic and Pogosyan expressed satisfaction with the fact that the decades-long friendship between the peoples of Serbia and Armenia has been institutionalised through a concrete state programme.
Markovic pointed out that today's signing of the Programme of cooperation is a great progress and announced that, as a first concrete step in the implementation of this document, the Serbian National Library will host an exhibition to mark the 500th anniversary of the printing of the first Armenian book.
Today we are facing a moment when new enthusiasts are needed to promote cultural relations, Markovic said, adding that it is necessary to train new young artists and experts in the field.
The Programme of cooperation in culture envisages providing mutual information about cultural activities, art festivals and competitions, as well as promoting the participation of artists and ensembles from the two countries in these events.
Serbia and Armenia will encourage the exchange of ensembles and soloists, organising concerts and art performances and cooperation in the field of folk art.
The Ministry of Culture, Media and Information Society will invest efforts to organise in Belgrade during this or next year an exhibition dedicated to the celebration of 500 years since the printing of the first book in Armenia.
The programme also envisages boosting cooperation in the field of translation and publication of the Serbian and Armenian contemporary literature, as well as support to close cooperation in the field of archaeology, museum management, and conservation and restoration of monuments, reads a statement of the Ministry of Culture, Media and Information Society.
As part of today’s visit of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan to Belgrade, three bilateral agreements between Serbia and Armenia have been signed.
In addition to the above-mentioned Programme of cooperation in the field of culture, the two other agreements signed are the Agreement on abolishment of visas for official and diplomatic passports and the Agreement on air traffic.
